Ice Wreaths, Ornaments, and Bowls (made in the freezer!) 🧊
fun and beauty for $0
Hello! This week, we’re going to go wild with freezing water. (It’s way more fun than it sounds 😜)
If you live in colder temperatures, you can simply leave things outside to watch the magic happen, but if you’re in a warmer area, clear some space in your freezer!
Bonus: these activities are particularly instagrammable, if you’re into that type of thing 😉
First, we’ll make ice wreaths and ornaments. You can use bundt pans, cookie sheets, plates. We found that plastic and nonstick containers work best for popping the ice out…glass and stainless steel caused more frustration.
Simply forage for natural items or gather things such as old Christmas tree clippings, red berries, sliced citrus, wilted flowers, etc. Fill with water, then add some twine, yarn, ribbon, or a scarf. Freeze, wait several hours, and check out the pretty thing you made!
Here’s what our ornaments looked like:
If they don’t pop out right away, wait a minute until they loosen up from the edges. Hang the ornaments on random twigs in your yard and enjoy how they glisten in the sun!
You can also make ice bowls (inspiration: Sew Historically) by nesting a bowl within a bowl, then freezing water in the ring of space between them. It adds a classy touch and it obviously costs $0 to make.
Here’s one more before-and-after to inspire you! Kids have so much fun looking for items and arranging them.
Sure, it melted quickly in our mild Tennessee weather, but it sure was pretty for awhile, and this is an idea to tuck away for below-freezing days.
I hope that gave you some good ideas! I would love to see your ice wreaths. Have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Hope from Family Scripts
My kids would love this.:)
