May Recap and June Announcements!
Hello! We take the last week of each month to give everyone a chance to reflect and catch up on all the content that’s already been sent out to you 😊 Today we’ll also announce next month’s theme and book club pick (it’s super short and super good.) Oh, and would you mind taking a quick survey to let us know how this newsletter can better serve you?
Here are some questions to ask your kids and loved ones, maybe while sitting on the porch and scraping on a cup of Italian Ice since they take so long to eat 😅 I would love to hear some of your answers in the comments!
Here are all the posts we sent out this month! Free subscribers receive access to about 1-2 posts each week, but paid subscribers get to see everything 😊

What to Expect in June
We’ve got lots of good things planned for the next month! Our personal growth theme is Health and Strength. No, we won’t be advocating for dramatic diets or weight loss goals, but we will be talking about how to have a healthier relationship with food and your body. And—as you can see from the activity idea preview below—we’ll be having simple, creative fun with our kids as usual 🤗
This month’s grownup book club is the shortest and easiest yet: Food Rules by Michael Pollan. It’s the most common-sense, insightful, fun book I’ve found on diet. If you get the version with Maira Kalman’s art, even better. There are a whole bunch of used copies for under $5 on Thriftbooks right now, and you get free shipping on orders over $15. (Shipping takes a week or two, though.)
This month we also encourage you to put a cookbook in your kids’ hands. Look for a cookbook that can help prepare them for a life of healthy choices, not just the kind that’s about cupcake decorating or all the things you can do with canned dough 😉 We like The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs by America’s Test Kitchen and, frankly, most grownups will learn a lot from it, too. (Cookbooks are great thrifted, too.)
If you need a good grownup cookbook, the New York Times Cooking No-Recipe Recipes book by Sam Sifton is excellent. If you haven’t been able to tell from how we make our Meal Inspiration posts, no-recipe recipes are our fave 🏆
I encourage you to set your own challenge for this month! What healthy habits can you make for 25 days this month?
Some ideas to try for 25 days (only pick one challenge…maybe two max! 😉)
15 minutes of exercise (like these fun dancy party videos)
Keep a food journal (not to obsess over calories, but just to be aware of what you’re feeding your body and how it makes you feel)
A daily walk
Go to bed before 10:30 pm (or a time that challenges you)
Avoid junk food (we’ll talk more about that in the Wednesday emails)
If you’re a free subscriber, you get about 1-2 emails a week, but if you want access to everything (including the full archives), would you consider subscribing? It’s only $5 a month!
Thanks so much for reading! I hope you have a great week!
Warmly,
Hope from Family Scripts
P.S. Please fill out this survey if you have some suggestions for how Family Scripts can better serve you!
