Hey there! It’s me, Hope. Here’s a tired-at-the-end-of-the-day selfie 🤪
Remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about moving forward imperfectly? That’s exactly the story of Family Scripts. Throughout the past year and a half, I’ve tried so many different things with the format, tone, and frequency of these emails; I posted twice a week, then five times a week, then three times a week, trying to figure out what served my readers best. I even tried doing an audio version with my daughter! When I’ve sent out surveys asking how I could best serve my readers, the results have been mixed, plus I’m not the entrepreneurial or marketing type, so…I don’t know what I’m doing 😅
I love making this newsletter. I love to learn, create, and share, and I hope so deeply that some of the things you’re receiving in your inbox have been helpful to you.
But to be honest, I’m not sure if all the late-night hours at my keyboard are the best use of my time…or yours. I feel the need to focus more on what’s in front of me: the people I interact with regularly and my home itself. I happily sacrificed those things for a season and hoped this effort at a newsletter would be financially justifiable (aka I hoped to make enough to hire house cleaners since I’ve been writing Family Scripts instead of mopping floors) and…nope, hasn’t happened.
I don’t want to quit, but for now I plan to cut back.
Starting May 29th, I’ll only put out one new post, once per week, on Mondays. I’ll include a parenting/personal growth pep talk and a few brief other things, and I’ll link to previous posts (and occasional new ones) if you want more details on a topic or idea. Hopefully this will simplify your inbox but give you further encouragement only a click away if you want it. As always, I’m open to suggestions.
Currently, all new posts are free to read, but after they’re a month old, they are locked and only available for paid subscribers. Here’s a coupon if you want full access!
If you are a paid subscriber—you have NO idea how much you encourage me, seriously—and if you feel you won’t be getting the value you’ve paid for, feel free to cancel and ask for a refund. Substack has a way of doing that and I’ll happily figure it out.
As far as the future…someday I would love to transition to a printed goods business with this same content. I have a blast making all the printables in the newsletter, and I wish you could just open up your mailbox and hold these things in your hands.
But I also homeschool five kids and want to be a good friend and neighbor, so figuring out my time priorities is complicated. I want the kids to see me doing things I love, but modeling self-discipline for them means that I don’t only do the things that are easy to enjoy, right? I’m glad they’ve seen me working on this passion project, but I also want them to see me do the boring adult stuff…because it needs to get done. I want to help them be people who actually do things and don’t just talk about it.
Anyway. You guys mean so much to me and I appreciate you sticking with me. And I’m not mad if you unsubscribe; I turned off notifications, so you can leave and it won’t hurt anyone’s feelings 🤪
Maybe fewer emails will make you like the newsletter more anyway. I hope so! I also plan to keep writing most Fridays on my personal/devotional blog, Hope’s Notes, if you want to check it out.
Thanks for listening. Thanks for reading. I don’t take your attention lightly. You’re wonderful. ❤️
Warmly,
Hope from Family Scripts
Hope, I admire anyone who prioritizes, full stop. Whatever you need to do right now -- for this season or for ever -- you have done incredible work here and that's something to be proud of. Cheering you on, so hard, no matter what 😘
Hope, you are amazing! Your vulnerable authenticity is such an encouragement. I think weekly posts will be perfect and I so remember being Mom ( and homeschool Mom) with more plans than I ever had time. God is good and helps us with the stuff He knows matters most, so I pray for His strength and peace as you lean into Him everyday and look to Him for balance. Know that He is using all you've given!
