April 8 // Easter Basket Ideas (and a Permission Slip About Traditions)
You don't have to do Easter baskets...but if you do, here are some ideas
Let’s talk traditions.
If you’re like me and had a very thoughtful mother, you might enter parenthood with all kinds of expectations of yourself, especially during the holidays. For Easter, my mom always dyed eggs with us and we decorated a little white tree with tiny egg ornaments. She made Jell-O eggs and gave us thoughtful Easter baskets. She tastefully placed pastels and tulips around the house and our home just felt like spring. We loved it all.
Then I became a mom, and found that I really don’t like the smell of vinegar, I’d easily lose the pieces to a little tree, I’m terrible at following Jell-O instructions, and some years I don’t feel like we can handle any more stuff. Oh, and I don’t really do “decor.” Am I a bad parent? Are my kids missing out?
No, and one of the wonderful things about having a family is that you get to create your own traditions! It’s very possible that some of the best traditions you can do this year are “staying within budget”, “having a calm attitude,” and “creating margin in our schedule.”
