Hello, dear readers!
This is Hope, the founder of Family Scripts., and here are my five awesome kids.1 I just wanted to thank you for being a reader and show you a bit of what to expect in the new year.
Family Scripts officially launched on December 28, 2021. During that first year, we worked very hard and shared exactly 200 posts! I am so encouraged by all of you who have entrusted me with your attention. I hope this newsletter has been helpful and enjoyable to you.
I adjusted the format of Family Scripts a few times last year as I was trying to figure out what my readers want, and I really appreciate you sticking with me.
New Posting Schedule
Trust me, I don’t want to spam your inboxes and I have no reason to, so—based on reader feedback—I decided to consolidate and post more efficiently this year, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Here are some peeks into what we send out:
Mondays: Parenting and Personal Growth
We’ll also share encouraging open letters (see, for example, “A Letter to the Burnt Out.”)
Wednesdays: Quotes, Picture Book Suggestions, Meal Ideas, or Acts of Service
These different topics will be on rotation every Wednesday so you get one post per month that is fully dedicated to each category. This way, you get fewer emails and can plan ahead, make your library list, etc. all at once.
Fridays: Activity Ideas
On Fridays, we’ll share activity ideas designed for all ages (including the grownups) and that use very minimal supplies. I decided to start posting these on Fridays so you would have some ideas for things to do with your kids over the weekend.
I hope this new posting schedule works better for you. Paid subscribers get to read everything—including the archives—and free subscribers will have access to about half the posts. Here’s 10% off, if you’d like a paid membership!
New Logo (and colors)
I wanted to make our branding a little more minimalist for the new year, and this new logo reflects that we like to think outside the box. (Cheesy but true.) The colors in the graphics we make will be more muted, too.
What’s Not New
If you’ve been around since early last year, you might notice that some of the themes, concepts, activity ideas, etc. are going to show up again this year. That’s not because I’m trying to take a shortcut, but because I’ve been aiming to create evergreen content since the beginning.
The parenting and personal growth encouragement that I needed to hear last year are due to be revisited this year. We also check out many of the same picture books from the library based on the time of year. The meal ideas are repeatable for each season. The activity ideas are something familiar that our kids can look forward to each year, too!
Every post is going to be edited or completely overhauled—and there will be plenty of new content—but I just wanted to let you know that no, you’re not experiencing déja vu. We’re recycling a lot of the content from last year because I think it’s helpful. If you want to unsubscribe, I won’t be offended.
Giveaways? Printed Goods? Subscription Box? Meetups?
I have lots of dreams and ideas beyond this newsletter that I think could be a big blessing to many of you, but the readership on here would need to grow more before I could justify allocating more time and resources to create things beyond the email.
But, whether any of that happens or not, I’m so grateful for this space, and I’m grateful for every single reader. You all mean a lot to me.
Other Ways to Connect
I welcome feedback at any time. Please let me know how I can make this newsletter better for you!
You can follow the Family Scripts Instagram @family.scripts or email me here.
If you want to read my personal blog, I write almost weekly on Hope’s Notes. It’s free and always will be. While I try to write Family Scripts for a broader audience, I talk a lot more about my life and faith in that space.
Again, you guys make my heart really happy. Love you all, and thanks for reading.
Warmly,
Hope from Family Scripts
Not pictured: my sweet husband Peter. We are overdue for a family photo that actually has all seven of us in it 😅
Looking forward to the new schedule & wish I could post your family picture from 2 weeks ago with adopted grandparents in it 😊❤️
Was just reading earlier this morning about how deep blue-green hues are one of several email design trends for 2023, so you're totally on the ball 😊 I like the new look, the new logo, and the new posting schedule. Wishing you a productive and successful newsletter year!
